TEEM Performance Training™ was founded by Derek Arledge. Derek has been a fitness professional since earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from the Pennsylvania State University and is currently pursuing his master's in exercise science at Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, MA. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). In addition to his training credentials, Derek is a USA Hockey certified coach (Level 4) and has nine seasons of coaching experience spent with the Penn State Lady Icers, Gonzaga College High School (Washington, DC), Baltimore Stars Youth Hockey, and with Cambridge Youth Hockey (Cambridge, MA).
Derek grew up playing ice hockey in the Washington, DC area. In addition to his coaching experience, he played Midget AA/AAA hockey and Junior hockey with the Baltimore Junior Bandits. He went on to play club hockey at Penn State from 1998 to 2000 before stepping into coaching. Derek now resides in the Greater Boston area. The summer of 2013 marks the inaugural year for Bring Your Unit, an ice hockey conditioning camp for youth hockey players (pee-wees through high school).
In the past, Derek has enjoyed working with clients from age six to age 80. As a personal trainer and sports performance coach, he has also worked with young athletes, high school athletes, and professional athletes (assisted in the 2008 off-season training and rehabilitation program with the New England Patriots). Coach D believes that all individuals deserve concrete attention to their training regimens.
Outlook & Philosophy Form and function is the name of the game. The fitness industry changes often, and ideas come and go; however, anyone can engage in physical activity. Anyone can change their current physical and wellness habits as well. Physical activity is not limited to one dimension, to one place, to one type of person, nor to one ideal but encompasses a strong spirit and a strong mentality, which both ultimately result in a strong drive. Everyone should have a certain health and fitness arsenal that includes various types of training such as, body weight training, group fitness classes, outdoor training, kettlebell training, dumbbell training, and more - your space is your playground. In addition, it is important to exercise safely, smartly, with good form, and with an open mind. Since we all were put on this earth, we should all "use what has been given".
